All About Bearded Collies or Beardies... Bearded Collies are hairy, bouncy, smart, charismatic, energetic and easy to fall in love with!  Bearded Collies come in several colors:  Black, brown, blue and fawn! The Beardie is bouncy, charismatic, friendly, smart but also stubborn and independent!  Beardies love to be active, are energetic, boisterous dogs who love to be outdoors and playing.  The Bearded Collie is a medium-sized dog.  Height for a male is 21-22” and females are 20-21”.  They weigh between 45-55 lbs.  Beardies live typically between 12-14 years old.  They do like to bark.  Bearded Collie Characteristics The Bearded Collie is a devoted, intelligent member of the family.  The Bearded Collie is stable and self-confident, showing no signs of shyness or aggression.  Lively and playful, good-natured and stable, this animated breed is famous for the "Beardie Bounce" that represents his happy, carefree attitude about the world.  Some Bearded Collies are rowdier than others, but most tend to jump up into your face unless taught otherwise. This athletic dog needs a good amount of exercise to satisfy his high energy, especially when young.  More urgently, he needs constructive activities (herding, hiking, agility, pet therapy, watching over other pets) to occupy his inquisitive mind.  Beardies are very sociable dogs who can become unhappy and destructive if left for long periods of time without the companionship of people or other pets.  This independent thinker can be stubborn and requires a confident owner who will establish and enforce the rules.  The Versatile Bearded Collie Bearded Collies are truly exceptional dogs.  Totally content to be your furry friend, you will find they have a way of stealing your heart as well.  Their energy, enthusiasm and desire to please make them a wonderful companion in a variety of dog sports, and you will enjoy the special bond that develops through the time you spend working with your dog.Beardies are really good at these activities:  Agility, Herding, Obedience and Rally, all fun, competitive and Beardies love the activity and attention.  The Bearded Collie’s loving nature makes them wonderful Therapy Dogs also.  The BCCA and the AKC both have programs to encourage and reward owners and their dogs that participate in a variety of sports.  The BCCA’s Versatility Award recognizes Beardies who have earned titles in 3 out of 5 AKC areas (Conformation, Obedience, Herding, Tracking, Agility and Rally).  The AKC’s Versatile Companion Dog (VCD) title rewards dogs and handlers who compete in all the Companion sports of Obedience, Agility and Tracking.So go ahead, go have some fun with your BEARDIES!
